Overview

The Gaggia Baby Class Espresso is definitely class in terms of coffee and baby in terms of size. Short and compact, it’s a shiny coffee gadget that should churn out only the finest espresso.

Coming with a milk steam arm and a cup warming plate, it’s got most of the features necessary to ensure your coffee is up to scratch. Users of the Gaggia Baby Class Espresso might have to do some experimenting with heating times and grinding to get the process right, but that’s part of the fun. As long as you use freshly ground ‘espresso grind’ coffee, you should get excellent results. The only downside to the actual coffee is the size of the drinks, which are pretty small and may leave some coffee addicts dissatisfied.

The crema (an essential part of t a good espresso) produced by the Gaggia Baby Class is rich and satisfying, and the temperature is spot on about 95% of the time. One flaw is the odd design of the steam wand, which is very difficult to clean properly due to awkwardly placed tiny screws.

The rest of the functions work well and are responsive, but regular descaling is recommended if you want to preserve your coffee machine for a longer period – the Gaggia Baby Class seems to be very sensitive to hard water residue.

The verdict

The Gaggia Baby Class Espresso coffee machine is probably best suited to someone who knows what they’re doing when it comes to operating a coffee machine. The descaling and cleaning requires a level of familiarity with coffee machine design, and if you want more variety than espresso shots and cappuccino then this machine might not be the one for you. However, the coffee is of good quality and the overall design is aesthetically pleasing.

Product Description

The Gaggia Baby Class Espresso Machine gives you a shot of genuine Italian culture from the comfort of your own kitchen.

Gaggia Baby Twin Coffee Machine

What we love about the Gaggia Baby Class Espresso Machine is the fact that it shuns the moulded plastics and digital technology controls for the good old fashioned barista basics of a sturdy pump and some excellent craftsmanship.

For around the £300 mark you’ll find few other machines to rival the Gaggia Baby Class Espresso Machine’s simplicity, which along with its ability to deliver that perfect smooth espresso cream on every shot – giving your kitchen that authentic Italian flavour.

Ok, so it might take a bit more effort to master the steaming of the milk and the packing down of the grounds, but surely this is half the fun of owning a coffee machine like the Gaggia Baby Twin Espresso Coffee Machine? This is about harnessing those barista skills that you can show off to your friends when you have them round for dinner – it has to more impressive than popping a cap in pod and pressing ‘GO’ surely?
