The Dualit Rapido 84640 is one of Dualit’s more affordable machines and strikes a good balance between compactness, usability and design. Compared to Dualit’s dedicated espresso makers, the Rapido 84640 is a more rounded device.
A remarkable feature is the twin pressure system which allows users to select either 15 bar for their espresso drinks and 3 bar for longer drinks. There is also a facility for making hot chocolate, although the capsules for that don’t really produce anything worth shouting about.
The container for used capsules is large enough for users not to have to empty it out every couple of days, and the temperature control is finely tuned and accurate.
The Dualit Rapido 84640 comes with a brushed stainless steel finish and does look faintly modernistic, but for some reason the design doesn’t really knock us off our feet. Its dull cylinder shape might be functional but doesn’t really set it apart, but maybe this is a subjective thing.
The Rapido 84640 heats up pleasantly fast, so there will be little waiting around in the morning.
Reliable, easy to use and good coffee – the Dualit Rapido 84640 is a very decent option for pretty much every household apart from those who prefer to grind their own coffee or who take kitchen aesthetics a bit too seriously.
