Overview

The DeLonghi EC152.CD is a coffee machine catering for lovers of espresso, cappuccino and caffe lattes. At a price around the £50 mark, it represents very good value for money.

It has to be said that it isn’t one of DeLonghi’s most stylish efforts. Steel usually dominates the design of most coffee machines, but the DeLonghi152.CD sports matt dark plastic as its main visual component, which makes it look a bit cheap.

However, once you have set it up, you will not only find that this coffee machine does not only feel pleasantly robust, but that it also makes a tasty cup of coffee. Its high-pressure pump makes for nice and strong espresso with delicious crema, delivered quickly. The included milk steamer is equally fast – you won’t have to wait around while your coffee is brewing. Having said that, it does feel a bit flimsy and can be unreliable.

There is some rumbling noise emanating from the DeLonghi EC152.CD, especially during the beginning of the brewing process, but nothing that will wake up the household or drown out the radio.

The cup space is limited, though, so there is little scope for you to fill your favourite mug with coffee. You’ll have to settle for ordinarily-sized coffee cups instead.

The verdict

This isn’t a coffee maker to win beauty prizes with, that’s for sure. But it will very probably win anyone over who likes deep and dark espresso. As long as you use decent quality ground coffee, the results are remarkably consistent in taste and temperature. The different parts are fairly easy to remove, although the steamer does require close observation and maintenance. Overall, the DeLonghi EC152.CD is a perfectly decent budget option.

Product Description

The DeLonghi EC152.CD coffee maker represents a great budget option – it may not match the chic of some of its more expensive competitors, but its coffee-making ability more than squares up. Its 15 bar pressure pump is the ideal tool to make creamy, rich espresso, cappuccino and lattes – quickly and reliably hot.

The slight dimensions of the DeLonghi EC152.CD mean that it will fit into pretty much any kitchen, without having to re-organise appliances.

User Reviews

"For some strange only known to Italians reason, the UK version of the EC155 is the EC152CD. The only differences being cosmetic, and the omission of the second larger capacity filter. The 152 still has the place to store your spare filter though. Maybe the other filter can be acquired through spare parts. Although DeLonghi seems to have missed a trick in not encouraging you to spend another £10 or so with them. It’s a great value little cheap machine. Although a bit light, and you need to firmly press down on the top of it when fitting or removing the filter to prevent the undignified chasing of the coffee machine around the kitchen worktop scenario. So it’s just as well that the pointlessly tiny cup warming area doesn’t actually get any warmer than a night with Margaret Thatcher which does help prevent burning your hand while trying to pin it down."
