"This is a very user friendly appliance and as with most capsule machines, it’s safe to expect consistently high quality coffee."

The Dolce Gusto Genio is available from both Krups and DeLonghi, they are essentially the same machine except the DeLonghi model comes in black and Krups have a lighter grey/green colouring on their model.
If you take a look at our Krups KP1509 Dolce Gusto Genio review you’ll be able to see for yourself that the machines are near identical. The main differences between the two is that this model is slightly more compact (by about 8 cm) and it has an ever so slightly (0.04L) larger water reservoir. They both come at roughly the same price as well, which will make it hard for you to pick one over the other.
This is a very user friendly appliance and as with most capsule machines, it’s safe to expect consistently high quality coffee. DeLonghi have implemented their ThermoBlock technology which means the Genio will be brewing your coffee in a matter of seconds.
One less referenced feature of these coffee machines is that you can also use them like a kettle. The speed with which you can get boiling hot water makes it ideal for a quick cup of tea or an easy means of warming a baby’s bottle.
There really isn’t much more to say than that the Genio is quick and efficient. A simple latch opens and shuts for you to put in your capsules and with the twist of a dial and push of a button you’ll get a well-measured coffee. If you’re wondering what the row of lights is for, it indicates the quantity of coffee to be made. There are buttons on the back to make hot or cold drinks or stop the brewing process.
This is a very discrete machine, it could fit in well in most kitchens and there’s nothing to complain about with the coffee it makes either. If the fact that the capsules aren’t recyclable won’t weigh too heavily on your conscience, the only thing to consider when buying this machine is whether you find the price of capsules cost-effective.
We couldn’t really find much to differentiate between the DeLonghi Genio and Krups’. We hesitate to call this machine value for money; it is definitely a well-constructed piece of coffee making equipment but when it comes down to it, the DeLonghi Genio is just a basic capsule coffee, there just isn’t enough to warrant the £100+ price tag.
